Lake Tahoe Fishing Report
August 4, 2008
Fishing Lake Tahoe has been very good. We are seeing large groups of Kokanee Salmon in 40-85 feet of water. Primarily trolling for the Salmon using dodgers and Kokanee Bug tipped with white corn. Fish are running between 12-20 inches.
Where there are Kokanee, there are also large Mackinaw feeding on them. Nice fish taken all week from 5-8 LBS. Mackinaw fishing had been very slow for the last two weeks, but things have really picked up. Fish are spread out from 40-360 feet of water. Trolling has been much more productive than jigging. Best method is Storm Thunderstick and Castaic Baits, fast troll between 1-3 MPH.
Jigging has been slow, but with a little patients it is really paying off. Find the fish in 60-260 feet of water use a Buzz Bomb with a minnow.

Fishing on Lake Tahoe has been very productive of late. The surface temperature is on it's way up and the fish are all spread out taking advantage of the nutrients, that Spring run off pushes into the lake.
For Mackinaw we have been both trolling and jigging:
Jig fishing has been the most consistent with limits taken most days. Fishing has been best from 65-210 feet of water using a red and white Buzz Bomb. Early morning has been the most productive from sun up until 8:30. Average fish on the jig is about 2-3 pounds or 15"-22" long. Best fish of the week while jig fishing was caught in 80' of water and weighed in at 9 pounds and measured almost 30".
Trolling has also been good. I am using both fast and slow trolling techniques with the best fish of the week weighing in at a whopping 16 pounds and 33" long. That fish was caught on the west side of the Lake in about 15' of water.

Lake Tahoe fishing has been very good the last several weeks. The surface temperature is going up, and spring run-off is at it's peak. This brings more action to the surface. Top lining in 5-50 feet has been good for Browns , Bows and Lakers. Fast trolling rapalas has offered steady action.
Mackinaw is the primary target on all of our Spring Trips. We are primarily jigging for them in anywhere from 80-200 feet of water. Pink and white Buzz Bombs have been working, just off the bottom. Action has been good with average fish from 2-4 pounds and some real nice fish up to 10 pounds.
Troller's are catching fish using a dodger and minnow. Best fishing has been on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe from the Ski Run Shelf all the way to Baldwin Beach.
Best trip of the day as usual, is the morning trip, departing Tahoe Keys Marina Daily @ 5:30 A.M. Afternoon trips have been much more inconsistent call now for availability 1-866-752-FISH.
